Fawn Wilson White and her husband Ken, members of Stone Church, are currently living in lockdown in Rome. Here is an interview with Fawn in which she describes the situation:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/saint-john-covid19-coronavirus-rome-1.5514746 You've probably been hearing about COVID-19 (coronavirus.) It's a new virus type that started to infect people in China, and now it's around the world. It's a respiratory virus like influenza, but very dangerous to older people, and people with diabetes and heart disease.
To keep everyone safe, we won’t be having a shared meal after church and we'll be doing things differently for a little. These changes are based on Bishop David’s directive and based on consultations with health care workers, other clergy, and members of the congregation. The virus is spread by droplets. When someone coughs, or sneezes, there is spray from their mouths and noses onto everything (including people!) up to 6 feet away. It will be on the hands of the sick person too. If you touch a surface with germs on it, then touch your face, you can get the virus too. So - we all need to stop touching things! We won't share food, or milk jugs and such. We won't shake hands at the Peace - a friendly wave or bow would be great! At communion, we'll only take the bread, and only the priest will touch the bread. They will wash their hands well first! And we'll ask everybody to clean their hands with sanitizer before coming up for communion. As always, it is ok to choose not to take communion right now. If you are even a little bit sick, please stay home and get your rest. We will keep monitoring the situation and we are reminded that even if you can’t make it to a Sunday morning service you can’t stop the Church (the people of God) from being the Church. If you have any questions Jasmine would be glad to talk to you about it. |
