Stone Church
Conservation Project 2021-2024
Celebrating 200 Years of Faith and History

While surviving the great fire of 1877, Stone Church has not been immune to the ravages of time. The worshiping congregation at St. John's "Stone" Church regards the building as an important part of our spiritual heritage. As part of the Saint John community, we are keenly aware of the importance of the church and its history.
As we move closer to the building's 200th anniversary, we commit anew to the responsibility of caring for the structural and masonry challenges that are becoming increasingly evident. We have already given or pledged $150,000 towards this initiative. We have hired the highly-qualified team at Heritage Standing Inc. of Fredericton, New Brunswick to closely monitor the building to ensure its safety.
This year, 2021, we will begin work on additional stabilization and repair to the tower. We will follow this work with broader conservation work as outlined in our master plan (available on request). With these efforts in place, we seek to repair and conserve the Stone Church building for many years to come.
